Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

[Posted on August 19th, 2014 by Phillip Lonsway]

Derived from the Greek word "apnea" which translates to "without breath," obstructive sleep apnea is a condition that affects 18 million Americans and is the most common out of the three main types: obstructive, central and mixed. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by repeated episodes of complete or partial blockage to the upper airway while a person is sleeping. The diaphragm and chest muscles have to work much harder to open that obstructed airway, drawing air into the lungs. After a pause of several seconds (sometimes as many as 30) breathing resumes with a snort, snore or loud gasp. As you can imagine, this doesn't make for a restful night of sleep. Fortunately, there are sleep apnea treatment options available in Houston.

Apnix Sleep Diagnostics is a sleep analysis center that is certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) to provide Sleep Apnea Treatment in Houston. Sleep apnea is a severe sleep problem that has an effect on an individual's respiration while asleep. The idiom "apnea" is Greek in inception and is defined as the "desire to breathe”. Irregular inhaling and exhaling identify the issue. These types of respiration pauses range in duration from five to thirty-five seconds and can take place a large number of times all through the night. Apnix Sleep Diagnostics can test for and address this condition.
